Airport Director with strategic flight altitude for HCA Airport

Do you want to lead an international airport with a unique position at the intersection of manned aviation, drones, technology and public-private collaboration?

HCA Airport is looking for a visionary and energetic CEO who can execute an ambitious strategy, ensure stable operation of the airport and further develop strong partnerships with both public and private stakeholders.

HCA Airport is located in Nordfyns Municipality - 10 kilometres north of Odense, making it Denmark's most centrally located airport. Historically, the airport has been a small regional airport with charter and private flights, but today it has been transformed into a specialised business and technology hub with a focus on drones, testing, development and defence.

Most of the growth comes from business, research and drone activities - not traditional scheduled flights.

Perhaps HCA Airport's most important asset is that it houses the UAS Denmark Test Center, an internationally recognised drone test centre and one of very few places in Europe with approved BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) airspace, approximately 1,900 km² of dedicated airspace over land and sea and fast approval processes for test flights. This gives the airport a competitive advantage in testing, certification and early development that many other countries lack.

The coming years of work with drones could lead to solutions we can only dream of today, and we need to be at the forefront of that development. Drones will be a game changer when it comes to efficiency and innovation in many industries, revolutionising everything from agriculture and construction to transport and emergency services. With the rapid pace of technological development, new opportunities are opening up every year - and we need to provide our ideal framework and airspace for that development.

HCA Airport is in the midst of a strategic shift, where drones will be the primary focus, while we still need to embrace and develop both manned aviation and our business park. This is the potential that our new CEO will help realise. We're established and we're at the forefront, but there's a lot that hasn't been established yet - and now we need to get hold of everything that's just bubbling away.

As a CEO, you will have significant freedom of execution and room to realise the enormous potential.

You also get:

  • A huge network of business partners
  • A multi-faceted job with ample opportunity to shape it yourself
  • Responsibility for the development of the airport business park
  • Close contact with customers, users and tenants at the airport
  • Backed by a strong board of directors
  • Lots of attention from the press, the public and the outside world
  • Managing a small, professionally strong organisation with 20 permanent employees and a group of on-call staff
  • Overall responsibility for an operational airport with both manned and unmanned flights (7,000 manned and 6,000 drone operations by 2025.

If you are an entrepreneur to the core and highly motivated to help unleash a whole new industry in Denmark while keeping your feet firmly planted on the ground and guaranteeing a safe and stable operation of the airport - you can read much more about the position, the airport and our expectations of you in the job and personal profile here.
