HCA Airport accelerates the transition: Drones and business grew significantly in 2025

HCA Airport's 2025 financial statements show growth in both revenue and primary business areas and support the Funen-based airport's strategic ambition to be Europe's leading drone hub.

The positive development for HCA Airport continued in 2025, with the airport experiencing growth in its core business areas - especially in drones and the airport business park. This is shown in HCA Airport's financial statements for last year.

Net sales increased by approximately 17 per cent, while gross profit grew by 15 per cent to approximately DKK 11.2 million. At the same time, revenue from both the business park and drones increased, with the drone area in particular standing out with revenue growth of over 70 per cent compared to the previous year.

The result for the year was DKK -13 million, which is on par with 2024.

”The financial results show that we are well on our way with the strategic transformation of the airport into a central drone and business hub. In 2025, we saw increasing demand for both drones and business, and this confirms that our strategic focus is the right one,” says Hans Okholm Vejrup, CEO of HCA Airport.

He elaborates:

”The bottom line is still negative, and that's expected. Running an airport requires investment. We see an increasing level of activity and a healthy development in the business, which also brings derived benefits in the form of regional business development and job creation on Funen.”

High occupancy in hotels

HCA Airport works with four strategic focus areas, which are drones, defence cooperation, the airport business park and manned aviation.

The business park was expanded by four hectares in 2024 due to high demand, and in September last year, US drone manufacturer Thunderstrike Aviation moved into its new 5,000 m2 combined factory and test centre. The other plots in the business park are also attracting so much interest that HCA Airport is considering further expansion.

The number of drone operations at the UAS Denmark Test Center also grew by six percent despite the week-long closure of Danish airspace in the autumn.

Meanwhile, the International Drone Show, an annual drone event held at the airport, set a new attendance record in 2025, attracting over 1,000 visitors from more than 30 countries, including leading international media such as the BBC.

”The drone show in particular, but also the generally high level of activity in the drone test centre, generates derived benefits in the form of accommodation in Odense's hotels. This is also an important element in the overall value creation,” says Hans Okholm Vejrup, referring to the fact that Odense's hotels were booked in the days around the drone show in June last year.

Next week, 3-4 June, the International Drone Show 2026 will once again be held at HCA Airport.

Connecting Funen with the rest of Europe

In manned aviation, the airport handles ambulance flights, leisure and business flights and a few charter flights during the season. Here, the number of passengers grew by 12 percent, while the number of flights decreased by seven percent compared to 2024, partly due to a conscious prioritisation of drone operations.

”We see great synergies in having an airspace for both manned and unmanned aircraft, and we prioritise helping to connect Funen with the rest of Europe. That said, drones, defence cooperation and the business park are our strategic growth areas, and our ambition and expectation is to develop these business areas further in the coming years,” concludes Hans Okholm Vejrup.
