HCA Airport has found its new CEO: Will elevate the airport to Europe's leading drone and test centre

The new director's experience from the Danish Defence, business and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will strengthen Funen Airport's position as an international hub for the development and testing of future drone technologies.

HCA Airport has found its new CEO. The choice has been made in favour of Alexander S. Christoffersen, who most recently came from a position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was posted to the Danish Embassy in Finland.

He brings with him a significant profile in the intersection of defence, technology, business and international cooperation.

Alexander S. Christoffersen succeeds Hans Okholm Vejrup, who is resigning at his own request this summer to move to the south of France.

“At HCA Airport, we have a clear ambition to be Europe's most important hub for the development, testing and integration of drone technology - in close collaboration between industry, research and defence. In a strong field of candidates, Alexander has been chosen because he has the right combination of international outlook, defence insight and commercial understanding to lead us there,” says Stefan Birkebjerg Andersen, Chairman of the Board of HCA Airport.

An executive profile built for the drone agenda

The 36-year-old Alexander S. Christoffersen has a broad management and specialist background. He has previously worked with policy development and international cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a manager at the defence company Terma, and as an administrator at the Danish Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency. In addition, he was deployed to Ukraine as a reserve and language officer in the period 2016-2017.

The interplay between business development, security, international regulation and partnerships will be central to his new role at HCA Airport.

Today, Funen Airport is home to an international airport, one of Europe's most advanced drone test environments in the form of UAS Denmark Test Center, a growing business park with more than 30 companies, and a close and binding collaboration with the Danish Defence Drone Centre.

Turning potential into tangible growth

“HCA Airport already has a unique position in the European drone ecosystem - with a closed airspace, strong test facilities and close interaction between industry, research and the Danish Defence. My task will be to further develop that position and ensure that we translate the potential into concrete growth, innovation and international impact,” says Alexander S. Christoffersen and adds:

“I look forward to leading an organisation with such clear ambitions and working with employees, owners and partners to make HCA Airport Europe's natural hub for testing and developing future airborne technologies.”

Combined farewell and welcome reception

Alexander S Christoffersen has his first day as CEO of HCA Airport on 1 September.

Vice Chairman of HCA Airport's Board of Directors, Kim Kenlev, will serve as interim CEO in July and August until then.

A combined farewell and welcome reception will be organised in connection with the CEO change Monday 8 June from 14:30-16:30. It will take place in the airport arrivals terminal.
