HCA Airport to increase drone operations and passengers by 2025

2025 saw even more drones in the skies above HCA Airport, which continues its successful strategic focus on drones. The airport's own figures for 2025 show this.

Drones are a strategically important business pillar for HCA Airport, and in 2025, the airport continued to grow the number of drone operations. This is according to a 2025 overview of activity levels.

In total, 2025 saw 5,893 drone operations, representing a growth of six per cent compared to 2024. This was despite the fact that Danish airspace was closed for a week in the autumn in the wake of what is suspected to be drone overflights by a so-called ’capable actor’ in several locations in Denmark.

As a result of the growing level of activity and general interest in using the airport's and UAS Denmark Test Centre's facilities, HCA Airport is currently working on options for a further expansion of the airport's business park, which was extended by four hectares just last year (https://hca-airport.dk/hca-airport-udvider-sin-businesspark-med-fire-hektar/).

”The interest in being present at HCA Airport is growing, as is the number of requests to use our airspace and other facilities, which is also supported by our 2025 forecast. We want to accommodate this healthy development, which is why we are looking at the possibilities for a further expansion of the business park, which is already attracting a lot of interest from outside,” says Hans Okholm Vejrup.

Slight decrease in number of flights

2025 also saw a slight increase in the number of passengers to 8,297, corresponding to a growth of approximately 12 per cent. This is primarily due to several larger ad hoc flights. It should be added that HCA Airport aims to keep passenger numbers at a maximum of 9,999 passengers per year due to current legislation in this area.

In terms of flights, 2025 saw a slight decrease of seven per cent compared to 2024.

This decline is related to fewer school flights and fewer parachute flights. The former is due to a strategic prioritisation of drone operations. Despite fewer parachute flights, there have been more jumps, indicating better capacity utilisation.
